| dc.description.abstract | The study concentrated on the attitude of teachers towards external supervision in Entumbane- Emakhandeni Cluster in Reigate District of Bulawayo Metropolitan Province. A case study was used in the process of establishing attitude of teachers towards external supervision. Purposive sampling to come up with a sample of 5 schools in the Entumbane- Emakhandeni Cluster was used, that is six teachers from each school took part making a total of thirty teachers. Semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data. Findings indicated that external supervision took place in school, and it was also established that external supervisors visited the school once or twice a term. Also findings revealed that the external supervision followed policy, hence it was in line with the policy. Findings highlighted that external supervision should not be done frequently at school as it disturbs the smooth running of the school. A general consensus by participants that external supervision should be done once a year and other participants felt it should be done biannual. Research findings also indicated that teachers are not always ready for external supervision as it disturbs their teaching and learning process. Findings revealed that the approach by the external supervisors is intimidating and threatening, teachers are thus, apprehensive about external supervision. The practice of external supervision lacks the quality to facilitate improved classroom instruction and teacher professional growth. Findings also came up with some strategies to curb the challenges faced. | en_US |
