Abstract: The widespread use of ICT offers considerable opportunities to society. However, there is&#xD;
ample evidence that students are exposed to various e-Safety challenges and risks through&#xD;
the use of ICT. Most Zimbabwean students who are not adequately prepared for e-Safety&#xD;
are now entering universities and are thus exposed to the risks posed by ICT. Therefore,&#xD;
this action research developed a strategy to enhance e-Safety among first-year students in&#xD;
Zimbabwean universities. The overarching research strategy was action research, which&#xD;
used qualitative research methods to collect information on e-Safety, usage and risks&#xD;
students face, and how these risks can be mitigated. Data was collected using an online&#xD;
questionnaire, interviews, observation and netnography. The results showed that the under-&#xD;
standing of e-safety issues is still in its infancy. Therefore, an e-safety strategy was formu-&#xD;
lated to clearly indicate what to report, to whom and how concerning safety. This strategy&#xD;
was based on the overall reflection of the research, which recommended that education&#xD;
plays a central role in e-safety, as perpetrators or victims may not be aware of the chal-&#xD;
lenges of e-safety. Thus, this research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by&#xD;
providing a clear strategy for dealing with e-safety challenges in Zimbabwean universities.&#xD;
Furthermore, this research is important in understanding the future of ICT use in develop-&#xD;
ing countries like Zimbabwe.</summary>

Abstract: Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) offers extraordinary opportunities for society, particularly in the education sector. Many schools in Zimbabwe are now allowing the use of ICTs devices by learners in order to access the Internet and share educational material. However, there is considerable evidence that through use of ICTs, learners will be exposed to different ICTs risks. Learners using ICTs may face Internet and social media related risks which may expose them to inappropriate content, communicating and meeting strangers, cyberbullying, ICTs addiction and cyber-harassment. Sadly, most parents, teachers and learners do not have knowledge and expertise to mitigate these ICTs risks. As such, this research aims to develop an Electronic Safety (E-Safety) framework for Secondary Schools in Zimbabwe that teaches and safeguards learners from ICTs related risks. Researchers used a qualitative research method to gather information on the use of ICTs, risks faced by learners and how these risks can be mitigated. A case study of two secondary schools in Zvishavane District (Zimbabwe) was used. Data was collected using face-to-face interviews and questionnaires from learners. Data from teachers, parents and officials from Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Child Protection Services and Ministry of Information Communication and Technology, Postal and Courier Services was collected using face to face interviews. Collected data was analysed using thematic analysis. A framework was then designed by researchers based on the results from the thematic analysis and reviewed by two experts.</summary>

Abstract: This study sought to design a framework to enhance database security in state-owned universities. Database security has been a cause for concern for state-owned universities following many reported cases of state-owned universities that were repeatedly hacked locally and the fact that internationally and there seems to be no strategy in place to guide database security mechanisms in state-owned universities. The study followed a positivist research philosophy using a hypothetical model to test various hypotheses. Through the lens of activity, Social Technology System and deterrence theories, using a survey method to gather the information, the hypotheses were tested and analyzed to further understand security vulnerabilities, security controls and ideal architectural requirements of database security. Quantitative data were collected from 104 respondents using questionnaires. A deductive approach was employed to ensure that the proposed strategy was designed after collecting the necessary data. The quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS version 22. The research findings highlighted the following issues that affect database security: human factor, work environment and technology in use. These issues lead to data exposure, data theft, data corruption, loss of revenue and loss of goodwill. Finally, a framework was proposed that would enhance database security in state-owned universities.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: Factors affecting the adoption and use of AVR technology in higher and tertiary education

Abstract: The research study assesses the factors that determine the adoption of Augmented and Virtual Reality (AVR) technology in Higher and Tertiary Education. In spite of the well-established potential benefits of AVR technology in education, it appears that most Higher and Tertiary Institutions have not holistically adopted it as a method of teaching and learning. Thus, it is important to investigate the reasons why AVR has not been adopted. Inductive qualitative research was conducted virtually with the aid of a questionnaire instrument. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used to establish the determinants for the adoption of AVR Technology. The research study found out that the main reasons for the lack of adoption of AVR technology were due to the lack of coordinating policies; lack of enabling infrastructures; perceived complexity of the use of AVR technology and a lack of a framework that guides the holistic as well as homogenous adoption of AVR technology in Higher and Tertiary Education. The research concluded that an AVR technology was necessary and should factor in the barriers to adoption. The study recommends inter-professional working of key players such as the Ministry of Higher Education (in endorsing an AVR technology model), the lecturers (using and encouraging AVR technology), and the students (active participation and use of AVR technology to learn). Prior to this study, the aspect of inter-professional working as a solution to the adoption and use of AVR in Higher and Tertiary Education had not been explored. However, more still needs to be done within Virtual Training and the development of an AVR model for teaching and learning.</summary>
