Abstract: In this unit, we deal with formative and summative evaluation. In our discussions, we should always remain mindful of the interplay between instructional outcomes, teaching and learning and evaluation. Emphasis on either form of evaluation depends on the purpose of evaluation so there are situations where one can be emphasised more than the other. Formative and summative evaluation is made possible from the data that we gather through assessment .Evidence on performance has to be gathered first before decisions on formative and summative evaluation can be made.
