Title: Industrial robotic arm vehicle controlled wirelessly using joystick
Authors: Zindere, Benson
Abstract: These days, robots, for example, line robot car, mechanical arm, robotic finger and other products were being utilized for several purpose. Robots convey a considerable measure of advantages to the general public, so they are prominently utilized as a part of industry, house and work put. In this undertaking, the outline of wireless industrial robotic vehicle ought to have the capacity to deal with and lift up an object and furthermore can be controlled utilizing remote joystick. The Play Station 2 controller interface between the mechanical arm vehicle and the microcontroller (Arduino UNO), if the signal is transferred from the joystick, at that point Arduino UNO will get signall and begin to control automated arm. The remote part utilizes the Radio Frequency link that is 2.4GHz between joystick and Arduino UNO. Any signal transferred to the Arduino UNO should go through the PS2 controller in order to run the industrial robotic arm vehicle.

Design of a low cost indoor ultrasonic intruder deterrent system with GSM based SMS notification

Title: Design of a low cost indoor ultrasonic intruder deterrent system with GSM based SMS notification
Authors: Mwandiambira, Bornwell
Abstract: Home/ Bank/ Office security has been a major issue where crime is increasing and everybody wants to take proper measures to prevent intrusion. The project is aimed at developing the security of home against Intruders. In a case of intrusion while the user is out of the house, then the device sends SMS to the emergency number provided to it and also display it on LCD connected to it. The paper consists of a background into the area At mega 2560 microcontroller, sensing elements and GSM modem, how they are interfaced to each other and AT (Attention) commands set used in communication. This system can avoid these undesirable situations of burglary and theft. Th security system has features like changing the input password of the system and a user friendly visual and audible interfaces for the user to operate on. The main goal of this research is to aid and assist in intrusion detection and avoid criminal activities which include theft and burglary. This research insured a cost effective and practical device that can be used in the student‟s country.

Quantitative evaluation of UHF TV white spaces, for rural broadband connectivity

Title: Quantitative evaluation of UHF TV white spaces, for rural broadband connectivity
Authors: Madhumbu, Shariwa T.
Abstract: With the increase in use of internet access across the world, there has been a shift from classic wired connection technology to the faster and efficient mobile wireless solutions. Zimbabwe as a country is also experiencing this upsurge. However, its hindered by the lack of flexible connection solutions in the densely populated rural areas. A perceived “digital divide” exists between the rural and urban population.
This study seeks to explore a new way of breaking this divide by exploring into Television White Spaces, a relatively untouched technology which makes use of unused frequencies in the RF spectrum. White spaces will occur in the UHF band in Zimbabwe when the country completes its Digital Broadcast migration programme. This study seeks to use methodologies to realize these white spaces and enhance the coexistence for both incumbent and TVWS technologies in the band. This is to aide with the connectivity of the far-fetched rural areas that are traditionally out of reach using orthodox wireless technology.

Web based home automation system using arduino

Title: Web based home automation system using arduino
Authors: Chikahe, Allen
Abstract: The aim of home automation is to control home devices from a central control point. In this paper, I present the design and implementation of a low cost but yet flexible and secure internet based home automation system. Nowadays, Internet has spread worldwide and most of the internet connections use Ethernet as media for data transfer. In industries or in home appliances, most of the time we need to monitor and control different parameters using microcontrollers. The popularity of home automation has been increasing greatly in recent years due to much higher affordability and simplicity through Smartphone and tablet connectivity. The concept of the "Internet of Things" has tied in closely with the popularization of home automation. Ethernet provides inexpensive, relatively high speed network access to individual users and low delay that can support many applications. This implementation is an attempt to connect an embedded device to an Ethernet. Using Ethernet based system we can control various home appliances from anywhere across the world. The existing system which uses the GSM,GPRS, Bluetooth, Zigbee Infrared and RFID technology which are having its own limitations notably of delays in signal propagations and limited distances associated with GSM communication ,Bluetooth and Infrared communication respectively.
