Abstract: University of Zimbabwe Industrial Attachment Web-based Supervision system was developed to computerize the processes involved in the work-related supervision system. The institution was using a manual system in the supervision of students on attachment which means students were manually submitting their logbooks in hand, supervision was done manually, and therefore time consuming. The main aim of this research was to come up with a computerized web-based supervision system that rectifies all the problems associated with the manual system that was being used. The data was gathered using three different research techniques to have enough knowledge about the manual system that was being used and to find out if the users were comfortable with a computerized one. Questionnaires, interviews and focus groups were used to have a rich research and possibly to reach different users. Additionally, to develop a user friendly and interactive web-based solution system, PHP programming integrated with some java scripts and HTML5 was used. The database was designed through the use of MySQL server since this database designing tool enables data to be stored, manipulated, edited, deleted and updated. The system was tested and successfully installed. The system was implemented using a pilot changeover approach to minimize risks of failure. The main system functionality is that, it allows three types of users, that is, students on attachment, work supervisors and academic supervisors to be registered on the platform. Work-related supervisor assigns tasks/duties to attachés online and view completed tasks, giving feedback, supervising students as well as assessing the performance of the students. Student can view assigned tasks and update them upon completion on a daily basis. Various measures such as user identification, user authentication and access control have been put in place in order to counteract unauthorized users from using the system. For more security features, the system can be further developed using Java programming language or using Android Programming Language and or IOS for easy access and convenience purposes.</description>

Abstract: SHEQ Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation System is a software application that was developed for Lobel’s Bread organization specifically for the SHEQ department. The software was developed to allow employees to be able to carry out activities such as electronic money allocation and analysis, event scheduling and tracking, instant communication through gaining access to the notifications platform giving feedback of activities and tests, publishing of the activities, report generation and analysis that will have taken place or are to take place. Information gathering methodologies such as interviews, questionnaires, observations and document review were used to identify the problems that arose due to the use of the current system.  These problems included the amount of time and unnecessary effort needed to carry out PQI tests because of the distance between offices. After the research the new SHEQ system was proposed which overcomes the problems that were associated with the current manual system such as too much bottlenecks. Instruments such as PHP, MySQL and the Internet were used to develop the proposed system. Feasibility analysis was carried out in terms of social, economic, operational and technical aspects to see whether developing the system is a viable decision and it proved to be viable.  In-house development was chosen as the best alternative to introduce this system in the organisation. Diagrams which include the context diagram, data flow diagram, class diagram and Use case diagram were used to illustrate the flow of data in both the previous and developed system. Implementation strategy used in implementing the system is the parallel changeover. This is because the previous SHEQ system is mostly manual and therefore running both systems parallel to each other allows measuring of other modules that may need amending before the system is fully implemented. Adaptive maintenance was chosen because it allows the system to adapt to environmental changes of the software and hardware. For future recommendations, the system should be able to operate on android or iPhone or any other devices and not only as web-based. The SHEQ system may be utilized for promoting Lobel’s Bread as a whole.</description>

Abstract: Agile software development offered a deceptively simple means to organise complex multi-participant software development while achieving fast delivery of quality software, meeting customer requirements, and coping effectively with project change. There is little understanding, however, of how agile software development projects achieve effective coordination, a critical factor in successful software projects. Agile software development provides a unique set of practices for organising the work of software projects, and these practices seem to achieve effective project coordination. Therefore, this dissertation took a coordination perspective to explore how agile software projects work, and why they are effective. The outcome of this research was a theory of coordination in co-located agile software development projects. The findings show that agile software development practices form a coordination strategy addressing three broad categories of dependency: knowledge dependencies, task dependencies, and resource dependencies. Most coordination is for managing requirement, expertise, historical, and task allocation dependencies; all forms of knowledge dependency. Also present are task dependencies, which include activity or business process dependencies, and resource dependencies, which include technical or entity dependencies. The theory of coordination explains that an agile coordination strategy consists of coordination mechanisms for synchronising the project team, for structuring their relations, and for boundary spanning. A coordination strategy contributes to coordination effectiveness, which has explicit and implicit components.</description>

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to develop a computerised Flight Plan Management system for Thornhill Air Field to be utilised for their aviation operation. The objective was to align the aviation sector with information system technologies for efficiency and effective operation substituting the manual paper based system. The dynamic changes brought about by the ever changing inventions in technology have greatly impacted the operations of various organisations both positively and negatively. With the advancements in technology as observed especially in this 21st Century, it is poignant to note that faster, easier and more efficient ways have been introduced in the reception and generation of information. In this regard Air Traffic Control across the world aligned its co-business of coordinating the movement of air traffic landing,&#xD;
taxing and even passing through their designated airspace jurisdiction. Aviation industry is one of the riskiest sectors which require proper management of air traffic based on accurate and reliable information. International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) is the governing board for all aviation of the world defining the standard to be followed by aviation stakeholders. Flight plan is an integral document defined by ICAO which a pilot or flight dispatures fill-in with all details&#xD;
necessary for a flight schedule to be allotted to him/her. At Thornhill Air Field all the flight plans were in paper format by pilots or flight dispatures which in turn are submitted to the Air Traffic Controllers. The manual work from the filling part, the transportation, compilation and verification of the flight details and the responds to the flight plan giving the approval or rejection of the flight schedule is a tiresome task. Flight Plan Management System seek to overcome all hindrances to effectiveness and efficiency by providing a real time computerized&#xD;
system. In order to acquire much information pertaining the hypothetical problem identification, the researcher used various data finding methodologies which include interviews, questionnaires, site observations and even collected all relevant documents inclined to this study. The major finding which was common to all the operators among them the pilots, air traffic controllers, meteological officer and others, pointed out the problem of tiresome, labour intensive, costly,&#xD;
slow, ineffective among the many. The researcher concluded the facts gathered with a recommendation for the need of computerised system as a matter of agency. The software component is designed using PHP as the programming language and MySql as the database server. The pilots and the flight dispatures would in a position to enter the flight details on the computer which are then send via the web technologies to the air traffic controllers who then approves the flight schedule or reject online. This project will support the ZIMASSET cluster of&#xD;
computerizing the operations of various sectors of the economy through value addition and efficient delivery of services. This system provides an avenue for further development of such system as much resources are to be channeled to research and development in this sector of aviation. Future endeavors for the upgrading of the system require to link the system to other air traffic control centres and other relevant organisations in the aviation sector.</description>
