Title: Culture of violence , a consequenceof leadership crisis in Southern Africa : the case of xenophobic activities in South Africa.
Authors: Tshuma, Crispen
Abstract: Violence in Southern Africa has become a culture where the end result of most conflicts affecting the region lead either to great suffering or destruction of infrastructure, ecosystems and human life. Southern Africa like the rest of the continent is facing a number of problems such as poor declining economy, political instability, poverty, gender based violence, ethnic and racial rivalry among other issues of concern. The existence of regional organizations like the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and African Union (AU) whose mandate is to integrate and develop the socio-economic and political space of the region has done little if not nothing other than being mere high profile talk shows. The post-independence reality is that violence among Africans in SADC is still rampant as it was during colonization given the xenophobic activities in Zambia and South Africa, with the latter dominating the stage. These xenophobic tendencies are said to be based prejudice and hatred towards selected black foreign nationals which as native groups accuse them of being persistent threats to their rightful entitlements like employment security and economic opportunities among other benefits. Also, given the denial state and misleading sentiments by some South African government personnel. Thus the purpose of this research was to establish poor political leadership as a reason to culture of violence in this context, poor governance by African states has led to xenophobic activities in South Africa. The research work also looked activities that point ills of leadership in different nations. Different schools of thought agree on the notion that Africa is facing challenges of governance which has direct impact to problems affecting the region. Data gathered allowed this work to arrive to conclusions and recommend possible solutions that can be employed to mitigate leadership and governance problems that will ensure successful and development of the SADC region and Africa as a whole.2018-06-01T00:00:00ZTshuma, CrispenAn Analysis of the effect of gender equality on peace consolidation in Zmbabwe from 1980 to 2017.

Abstract: The research explored analysed the effects of gender equality on peace consolidation within Zimbabwe from the post-independence period till 2017. The waves of democracy and different feminist theories being explored at all levels within a state have given rise to the involvement of women in political processes such as peace consolidation. The inclusion of women in policy formulation and decision making processes has been greatly advocated for especially when it comes to peace processes. The research looked at the challenges faced by women in Zimbabwe when it came to participating in political processes especially in a society that is pre-dominantly patriarchal. It also looked at measures and progress taken so far by state and non-actors and placed recommendations to be taken in order to fast track peace consolidation in holistic manner through gender equality. Data was collected and analysed qualitatively using questionnaires and in-depth interviews which gave a viable explanation as to people’s feelings toward gender equality and what effect it could have on peace consolidation in the future. Graphs, tables and pie charts were used to outline the findings of the research that were give an indication of whom and how many people within a selected group were aware of gender equality and its effects and how many supported the linkage between gender equality and political participation. Furthermore, the in-depth interviews and questionnaires gave a broader and deeper understanding as to the varying numbers and percentages in the graphs and charts.2018-01-01T00:00:00ZZhandire, NyaradzoCritically analysing a grand coaltion cabinet ( GCC) as a temporary solution to democracy in Africa : a case of Zimbabwe (2009-2013)

Authors: Mugwagwa, Arnold
Abstract: The determination of this study was to find out if the economic crisis and economic policies are largely to blame for the conflicts and instability which is an environment best described as absence of negative peace in the 21th century Zimbabwe. The research limited its scope to only the conflicts which occurred from the year 2000 up to the current year which is 2018.
The research used conflict analysis tools to better understand the dynamics, nature and actors in the conflict in Zimbabwe. Particular attention was given to scrutinize the extent to which economic factors caused instability. Only a sample of few key informants was implored as respondents, the research was also premised on documentary review and reports from social media platforms like twitter. Structured and Semi-structured interviews were used to collect the information from the selected respondents. The findings were centred on the information captured in both qualitative face to face interactions and quantitative. Another purpose of this research was to validate or falsify that the economic crisis and policies are to blame for the conflicts and instability in Zimbabwe and also to update the existing data concerning the study area2018-01-01T00:00:00ZMugwagwa, Arnold
